Ibrahim Balogun is an Ilorin-based lawyer who obtained his LL.B from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 2012. He attended the Nigeria Law School, Enugu Campus and was called to Bar in 2013. He did his NYSC in the High Court of Justice, Ekiti State in 2014. He, however, shares with ABIODUN BOLUJOKO his most unforgettable day in court. Excerpts:
The day I will never forget even in a hurry was when I was undergoing my NYSC programme in Ekiti State.
There was a particular matter that involved Ekiti State versus Femi Orebe and others. It was a matter that bordered on properties that were sold illegally by Fayemi’s administration during his first term as governor of the state. When Peter Fayose came on board as governor, he wanted to retrieve the properties to the rightful owners.
Though the experience in court that day was terrible but I was glad to be there, in the company of my principal, Chief Rafiu Balogun. While the court session was going on, suddenly, hoodlums came from nowhere, invaded the court beating up everybody including the Judge.
We started running helter-skelter and in the process of running for my life, I lost one leg of my shoe and even my boss lost his wig. Those who could not escape were mercilessly beaten up. This is a day in court that I can never forget.
