The Kwara State Signage and Advertising Agency (KWASAA) will today (Monday) begin the removal of illegal political billboards erected within Ilorin metropolis.
The agency had earlier warned politicians against illegal and indiscriminate erection of billboards, signboards across the state.
The General Manager of the agency, Alhaji Hammed Olufadi made the disclosure during a telephone chat with this medium on Friday.
He said, ” We have observed that the environment has been littered with all sorts of signposts and billboards across the state.
” in our capacity, we will begin removal of these billboards across the metropolis to ensure that sanity is restored in the state.
“The law establishing KWASAA states that before anyone can erect any billboard, the agency must be aware and it must be duly registered.
“It is our duty to ensure that billboards are not erected where they can constitute dangers to motorists or pedestrians on roads, or near electrical installations or water’s right of way, to prevent disaster,” the KWASAA boss explained.
While decrying the flooding of Ilorin metropolis with political billboards, he said the agency will take immediate corrective measure towards sanitising the state capital.
“The enforcement will commence on Monday in accordance with our responsibilities to ensure clean environment.”
He noted that the era of politics is over and now is the time to face governance.
