My daunting experience which I cannot forget happened on my first day in court. before a Federal High Court judge in Katsina.
The state coordinator of the Legal Aide Counsel, one Barrister Kabo gave me a file and asked me to go to court to defend the matter. I thought in my mind, how will I do it, I’m a new wig.
The matter was on fundamental right enforcement proceedings. When I was about moving an application for leave, the judge told me such is not in law again… immediately I lost my composure. Other thing that added to the fret and took my breath away was the vicinity of the court, everything was strange to me. In fact, my beep was worn upside down.
When the judge perceived my restlessness, he asked, ‘when were you called to bar,’ I replied, ‘My Lord, this is my first appearance,’ he then exclaimed, saying, no wonder, urging me to calm my nerves even as he began guiding me. I could remember, it was during Ramadan, I was sweating profusely.
