Residents of Awolowo road, Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State were on Thursday day shocked as they woke up to the sight of the remains of a yet-to-be identified motorcyclist.
The deceased was said to have been identified as a motorcyclist with the union’s uniform found on his body.
Pilot Crime was told that the deceased had several matchete cuts on his body, while his motorcycle was nowhere to be found.
A commercial motorcyclist, who simply identified himself as Suleiman and spoke to our reporter said the deceased was murdered by suspected robbers.
“It is believed that he was lured to that area by robbers who killed him and subsequently took away his motorcycle.”
He decried the high rate of motorcycle robbery in Ilorin, the state capital, calling on security agents in the state to arrest the situation and beef up security in the state.
According to him, the case was reported at the A Division police station and the remains of the motorcyclist were evacuated and deposited at the morgue.
Also reacting to the incident, another commercial motorcyclist, Tunde Yusufu, said two of his colleagues were robbed of their motorcyclist within a spate of two weeks.
“They were beaten severely by the robbers who later went away with their motorcycles. The sad thing is that the motorcycles were yet to be fully paid for by the owners. So, it was double tragedy.
“Now they have graduated to killings before snatching motorcycles. It’s high time the leadership of our association protested against this ugly development and call the attention of the police and other security agencies to the development,” he added.
Efforts to speak with the state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to confirm the case proved abortive as calls and text messages to his mobile phones were not responded to at the time of filling this report.
