KWIRS rakes in N6.2bn in 1st quarter of 2019

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has generated a total sum of N6.279 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state in the first quarter of 2019.
The Executive Chairman of KWIRS, Prof. Muritala Awodun made the disclosure while addressing Journalists during a quarterly media briefing of the agency held in conjunction with the state Ministry of Information and Communications in Ilorin, on Thursday.
Giving the breakdown, the KWIRS boss said N2.1 billion was collected in January, N1.76 billion in February and N2.38billion in March.
Awodun noted that the prospect of the state to generate an average of N2billion monthly has become a fruition.
Awodun while enumerating the achievements of the agency in the area of community impact projects, disclose that a study conducted had shown that the state could generate N60billion annually.
“The truth of the matter is that the study conducted showed that the potential IGR capacity of Kwara State, as we speak, it is about N60billion annually; that is about N5billion monthly. But it is obvious that for you to pull a state from N7.2billion annually to N60billion annually, you have to take it on a systematic margin, and that is exactly what we have done.
So, in the first quarter of 2019, we have collected N6.279billion. In order word, the journey of the average N2billion monthly has come to stay.
“What we are expecting in 2019 is for us to be able to grow the average to about N3billion on a monthly basis, and I believe that, that can still be accomplished in the remaining nine months of 2019.
