Fathers’ Day: Don’t shirk responsibilities at home, men charged

As the world celebrates Father’s Day on Sunday, men have been admonished to live up to their responsibilities at the homefront in line with God’s directive..
This charge was made by a cleric, Prophet Akin Awoye in his sermon, yesterday at a service to commemorate this year’s celebration at the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Movement, Ilorin District Headquarters, yesterday.
The cleric said that some men have shirk in their responsibilities towards their family, a development which he said has contributed to prevalence of moral decadence and social vices in the society in recent time.
According to him, some fathers have lost respect and relegated to the background at the home front because of their inability to cater and care for their family, adding that the Bible said that a man who cannot provide for his family is worse than an infidel.
“God has outlined responsibilities of a father towards his family as can be found in the book of Ephesians chapter 5 verse 22. A man is the head of the home and as such, must struggle to fend for his wife and children,” he further said.
Prophet Awoye, however, noted that a father must possess good virtues and be morally upright to run his family effectively and bring up God fearing.
To succeed as a father, the prophet advised that men should lead exemplary life worthy of emulation by their children and be disciplined as well as have good relationship with members of their individual families.
Meanwhile, the cleric urged Christians to use their resources to impact on the lives of the less privileged in the society as well as for the propagation of the gospel of Christ on earth.
