Embarrassed, day my lie was exposed

Okechukwu Onyinyechi Confidence bagged her LL.B from Ambrose Ali University in 2015. She proceeded to Kano campus and was called to Bar in 2016. She had her National Youth Service programme at Chimezie Chambers in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. She shares with KAYODE ADEOTI, her most daunting day in court. Excerpts:
Since I started practising, I have represented my boss in court in many cases. All of these cases came with their challenges that add to my experience in the legal profession.
I can’t just forget the experience I had while handling a case in court sometimes ago. It will continue to be a day of reference, drama and of course, embarrassment.
I lied in court that my client was ill not knowing that the husband was in court. I did that just to make up for the woman’s absence. But lo and behold, my lie was not appreciated. The husband stood up in fury and announced to the court that his wife was not ill but at home. The magistrate was not happy with me. She asked if she could put me on record, I said yes. It was a kind of embarrassment for me that day.
