Ondo Oil Field Fire: Residents seek govt’s intervention

Residents of Ajegunle-Ikorigbo in Oloje Local Government Area of Ondo State have cried out for Federal Government’s intervention over the fire explosion that engulfed five oil wells in the region.
The oil wells affected by the fire incident include Isan West field, Parable field, Malu field, Ororo field and Opokaba field which were being operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
In the news monitored last night on Channels Television by this medium, the fire which broke out in Ajegunle community was said to have spread to Ojumole, a community located within Ikorigho land where the oil wells are sited.
It also affected Otumara, Iluayo, Ayeren and Kendo communities all of which fall within Ikorigho land.
Residents of the community have community to beckon on the federal government to intervene in the matter saying the fire has continued burning despite community effort to put it off.
Alex Owoeye, one of the resident in the area lamented the damage the explosion has caused the community.
He said since the incident on Thursday, the community has been able to rest stressing that all effort geared towards addressing the issue has not yield result.
Some other residents have also urged the federal, state and National Emergency Management Board (NEMA) to rescue residents of the community.
The community leaders also pleaded with the federal government to impress it on Chevron to provide safety measures for its operation in the community.
