9th Kwara Assembly: Speaker charges lawmakers on vibrancy

As the 8th Legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly, winds up, the incoming legislators have been charged to sustain the vibrancy that makes the state legislature an outstanding one in the country.

The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, gave the advice in Ilorin while speaking on the achievements of the Legislature under his watch.

Dr. Ahmad explained that the House under his watch, played prominent role in ensuring autonomy for State Legislatures, the first to pass the Bill, seeking to grant autonomy to Local Government Councils in the Country under the recent constitutional amendment.

He said though the outgoing leader, Hon Hassan Oyeleke would not be privileged to attend the valedictory session as he would be in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, he had contributed significantly to the success recorded by the outgoing Legislature and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.

Earlier in his valedictory remarks, Oyeleke who enumerated the achievements of the House and the privileges he had enjoyed, praised the Speaker, Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed, his colleagues, his constituents and staff of the State House of Assembly, for creating enabling environment for him to perform for two terms.

With less than a month to the end of the tenure of the 8th legislature, Oyeleke (PDP, Essa/Sawo/lgboidun) who is among the six ranking lawmakers formally vacated his seat during Tuesday’s plenary in his farewell speech which lasted less than 25 minutes said his decision to vacate before the expiration period was to enable him attend the lesser Hajj (Umrah) in Saudi Arabia and some personal commitments.

He promised to continue to embark on activities that would further improve the wellbeing of the residents of the community.

He urged the incoming 9th Assembly in the state to sustain the good legacy of the House by sponsoring bills that would further improve the wellbeing of the people of the state.
