The Chief Medical Director of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Dasilva has given assurance that the ravaging coronavirus will soon become a thing of the past.
He premise his optimism on efforts by researchers world over to get vaccine for the novel virus.
In a chat with our reporter in his office recently in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, he urged people to follow strictly safety measure protocol to flatten the curve.
According to him, “All efforts are being in place by scientists and researchers globally toward curtailing the virus by getting a vaccine.
“Researchers have started working tiredlessly to get a vaccine for it and hopefully it will soon be released.
He added,”The ease of lockdown policy of government can only be effective if the general public can strictly comply with the NCDC guidelines on safety.
“The virus has gotten to the stage of community transmission. Lockdown has larger effect to curb the spread. The essence of the lockdown in the short run is to curb interactions and if that is down the virus dies. We should ensure and comply with social distancing, washing of hands and other rules. If this is done, the virus will vanish.
The CMD, however, lauded efforts puts by the Kwara State Government toward curtailing the scourge in the state.
“Kwara State Government has done wonderfully well. They have supported us with lots of protective equipment.”
Meanwhile, he expressed hope that UITH in the nearest future will compete favourably with world class health institutions in terms of practice and state-of-the-art equipment.
“We don’t have all the required modern equipment now, but we are hopeful to get them. That is our target.
“A company is already building a technology department which will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
“We are not there yet, but we will soon become a global player in the health care sector”, the CMD stated.
He, however, commended the various unions of the hospital for their support given to the management for smooth operation at the health facility.
“This administration has so far operated a open door policy. Every union is being carried along in decision making.”
