Tafa Oloyede, ace Yoruba actor, is dead

John Adewunmi, the popular Yoruba actor better known as Tafa Oloyede, has passed away.
Ademola Oyedokun, Osun state secretary of the Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), announced his death on Tuesday.
Oyedokun said the movie star died in his home at Arowomole in Kajola area of Osogbo, the state capital, after a brief illness.
Oloyede started his acting career in 1974 and established himself as a popular name in Yoruba movies.
The deceased came into the spotlight after he featured in โAkanji Oniposiโ and also starred in several other movies like โJaiyesimiโ, โAyanmoโ, โEkuro Olojaโ and โOrogunโ.
He is survived by his wife and children.
Oloyedeโs death further stretches the list of movie stars that have died in the past months.
Last year, the movie industry lost Rachel Oniga, Ifeanyi Dike, Baba Suwe among others.
Abubakar Yakubu, national secretary of the Actorโs Guild of Nigeria (AGN), had earlier decried the rate at which actors die in the movie industry.
โYou can imagine how these things happen! Today, we buried Rachel Oniga. Victor died too. Just as weโre trying to get over that, Ifeanyi Dike followed. Itโs a very devastating moment for all of us. Weโve been crying since,โ he had said.
