Alleged Bank Robbery: 39-yr-old barber remanded in Ilorin

The magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on
Tuesday, remanded one Jiga Barnabas over alleged bank robbery.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the case was
reported to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) Unit,
Ilorin through an information that on Tuesday 10th September, 2019,
one Jiga Barnabas came to the banking hall of GT Bank Tanke Junction,
Ilorin under the pretext of withdrawing money in which he jumped over
the counter and started carting away money from the cashier.
It further revealed that on the strength of information, F-SARS Supol
Oyesunle Ademola swung into action and was able to arrest the suspect.
Interrogation and investigation conducted at the F-SARS office
revealed that Barnabas of no fixed address is not a customer of the
bank but trespassed into the banking hall and violently jumped over
the counter before packing money belonging to other customers.
He was dragged before Magistrate Hafusat Alege for robbery contrary to
section 298 of penal code law.
The prosecutor, Issa Abubakar prayed the court to remand the defendant
in the Nigeria Correction Service as the FIR is accompanied with a
motion exparte.
In his short ruling, Alege remanded the defendant to Nigeria
Correction Service (NCS) while the case has been adjourned to Friday
September 12, 2019 for further mention.
