President of Kwara State Commercial Motorcyclists Association, Alhaji Fatai Oladimeji has denied giving security agents in the state the sum of N10m as bribe.
This is coming on the heels of an allegation that the leadership of the association doled out money to security agencies for alleged ‘settlement’.
In an interview with Pilot Crime in Ilorin, at the weekend, he described the allegation as unfounded and baseless, adding that it is an effort by detractors to tarnish his image.
“We don’t give police, KWARTMA and any other security agency money. I always advise my members to follow the traffic rules and regulation to avoid being arrested by security operatives.”
Oladimeji thanked the Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for his support to Okada riders in the state.
The association boss assured that he would work hand in hand with the police to hand overย unregistered commercial motorcyclists disturbingย affairs of the society, to the command for peace to reign in the state.
Oladimeji addedย that theย association is ready to cooperateย with government to move Kwara to greater height.
It would be recalled that Egbetokun has exonerated his men and officers from the allegation of extortion levelled against the police by commercial motorcyclists otherwise known as Okada riders in the state.
Egbetokun who said this upon completion of investigation into the matter, stated that it was discovered that the policemen didn’t collude with leadership of Okada riders in the state to extort members.
However,ย Oladimeji explained that the said money was meant for proposed project execution and gifts for executive membersย of the association, saying further that the sum is yet to be raised.
“Every year,10 members of each of the five branches meet at the state secretariat alongside two executives each to discuss issue concerning the association.
” At the meeting it was planned that gifts should be bought forย send forth ceremony of the present executive and execution of project.
“That was what Kazeem Issa heard and gathered people to distabilise my administration. Heย has been expelledย from the association for his act ofย thuggery.
“He gathered some miscreants to cause problem within the association and create tension in the public.”
The association boss also debunked the allegation that he collected money from the past government.
“We heard that government gave 10million naira to the executives of NURTW and RTEAN. We went to meet the former SA Politicalย and he denied giving money to any association.
“Heย said they can’t even give us money because we are not loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). But I made him understand that weย our association is non partisan.โ
