Gorimapa and His Ill-Conceived Message

By Abdul Abdul
Since It is the return to the era of the ‘Village Headmaster, a drama series aired on NTA in the 70s up to the 1990s, with some pseudo-intellectuals employing the characters to abuse their masters’ perceived enemies, Sam Omatseye’s writings usually present him as fitting the bill of Gorimapa, the palace messenger.
Gorimapa, a cantankerous character, was always ready to deliver the messages from the King’s court to any individual in Oja Village. He would also deliver the message without any finesse or sophistication. He was brash and uncouth. Sam Omatseye is just the same as he revels in abusing people or making false claims in other to protect the interest of his Master, the Oloja.
In his latest diatribe, Former Senate President, Dr. Saraki was his target, once again. Sam enjoys abusing Saraki, though each time he does it, he usually ends up being confronted with the folly of the premise of his argument. The last time, he claimed Saraki was responsible for the bad roads across the country as, according to him, the budgets of the Ministry of Works were slashed by the 8th National Assembly. However, when he was confronted with the figures of the amount proposed to the National Assembly, the amount approved by the legislature, and the amount eventually released by the Presidency between 2015 and 2019, it was obvious his claim lacked any basis. Sam lied.
In today’s edition of The Nation’s newspaper, the grouse of Sam and his master which formed the basis of the attack on Saraki is the decision of the Lagos4Lagos Group to defect into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). It became worse than the man whose face they cannot stand was there in Lagos to hold the final discussion with the Lagos4Lagos group.
It is contradictory that while Sam and his ilk continue to describe the Lagos4Lagos as a “nonentity”, they have been fretting and demonstrating a sense of insecurity since the departure of the group from their fractious party. Well, when the true story of identity crisis is told, we know those who will be comfortable and those who will run away. Those who live in glass houses had better stop throwing stones.
