KWSG pledges to eradicate poverty

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment towards embarking on programmes and policies that would reduce poverty in the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye said this while receiving members of the Youth Empowerment Social Support Operations (YESSO), a World Bank programme in his office at Government House, Ilorin.
Ajakaye, who commended the group for the visit reinstated the commitment of the governor to key into any activity aimed at eradicating poverty in the state, stating that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is determined to pay staff salaries promptly in order to reduce poverty in the society.
The governor’s aide expressed satisfaction with the YESSO programme which has empowered 19,200 people across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
He thanked the World Bank for its intervention in reducing poverty in the state even as he promised government’s support at improving the welfare of the citizenry.
Ajakaye noted that government is committed to the eradication of poverty through prompt payment of salaries and other interventions to support the people of the state.
Earlier, the Head of Public Welfare, Youth Employment Social Support Operations in Kwara State, Alhaji Samsudeen Aregbe represented by the agency’s Information Education and Communication officer, Alhaji Salaudeen Olayinka, said that the delegation made the visit in order to intimate the Governor’s spokesman about the activities of the agency in the state.
Alhaji Salaudeen said the scheme was a tripartite agreement among the World Bank, state and local government to empower the youth and reduce restiveness in the state.
He disclosed that about 18,000 beneficiaries were deployed to their respective communities across the state on July 1 for schools, hospitals and markets cleaning and traffic management.
