What appeared as a bizarre drama occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State last Sunday when armed robbers and a vigilante engaged in a fisticuff.
It was gathered that the incident happened when armed robbers attacked NNPC filling station at Fate area, on the fateful day.
Pilot Crime learnt that the gunmen had stormed the filling station at about 9:30pm and dispossessed the petrol attendants on duty of the day’s proceeds.
Recounting the incident, the Manager of the filling station, Tunde Mustapha said the vigilante on duty engaged the armed men in physical combat when gun bullets did not penetrate his body.
“Our vigilante who showed up to save the situation became target of the   armed robbers. They shot at him but he deflected the bullets.
“The vigilante then engaged the armed robber in possession of our money in a fight and succeeded in retrieving it from him. He however suffered head injury when his assailant hit him with the butt of his gun.
He added that the armed robbers reinforced and came back but were overpowered by the men of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) who received distress call from the filling station.
“The vigilantes about 12 in number stormed our place and the armed robbers on sighting them took to the heels,” he said.
Speaking on the development, the state Chairman of the Vigilante group of Nigeria, Seriki Ndaji of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdulraheem Jimoh confirmed the incident.
He said items such as gun, charms, motorcycle were recovered from the scene and   handed over to police officers at Kulende police station.
However, efforts to get the state Police Spokesman, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the matter proved abortive as calls to his mobile phone did not connect.

The men of vigilante group of Nigeria, Kwara State command on Thursday recovered stolen items valued at N700,000 from burglars in Ilorin.
Pilot Crime gathered that the items were recovered from four suspected robbers who burgled houses in Olorunsogo area of the state capital.
It was gathered that the robbers who were intercepted by the security operatives, took to their heels leaving behind the stolen items.
When contacted, the development, the state Chairman of state VGN, Seriki Ndaji of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdulraheem Jimoh confirmed the incident.
He said the recovered items had been handed over to the police at the Adewole D Divisional station.
Efforts to get the state Police Spokesman of the Kwara command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi proved abortive as calls to his mobile phone did not connect at the time of filing this report.
