Residents of Ajakuta street, Adewole, Ilorin, Kwara State have raised alarm over prevalence of robbery incidents in the community.
It was gathered that many residents have suffered huge loss as a result of robbery incidents in the area in recent time.
A resident, Dr. Ayinde Shamsudeen, who spoke to Pilot Crime on the development, said he lost his Honda Accord (Baby Boy) with the registration number Lagos KTU 230 DV to armed robbers, about a months ago.
According to him, the car was stolen from his residence and efforts by the police to trace it has proved abortive.
“How the robbers were able to steal my car has remained a mystery to me. It was stolen from my residence and the case has been reported to the police.”
Another resident who simply identified himself as Maruf told this medium that a Nairabet shop in the area was burgled a fortnight ago and all valuables carted away.
“The robbers took away plasma TV, computers, phones among other things during the midnight operation, ” he said.
It was also gathered that the shop of a yam seller popularly known as Mama Lanre was burgled recently and about 350 tubers of yams carted away.
Another resident Lookman Abdulganiyu lamented that residents could no longer sleep with their eyes opened given the spate of robberies in the area.
He called on the police to beef up security in the area, adding that but for the presence of Nigeria prison officers in the area, the situation would have been worse.
He added that presence of students of higher institutions in the community, has not helped matters.
“It is unfortunate that undesirable elements are posing and mixing up with students thus making it difficult to identify the culprits.
However, effort to get the state Police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to speak on the development proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to his phone were not going through due to poor network by service provider, at the time of filing this report.
