The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday called on the state government to direct Harmony Holdings Limited to terminate all the agreement that leased out Bubble 007 formerly Tourist Kitchen to the private sector.
The state Tourist Kitchen is owned by Kwara State Government and was reportedly leased out to former executive director of Harmony Holdings, Alhaji Adebayo Sanni by the immediate past administration.
But, Sanni said he was not part of Island Holdings adding that, “The owners of Island Holdings are the ones that have Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Harmony Holdings and I believe they will react appropriately. Mine is just as an observer”.
He spoke with our reporter in Ilorin, last night, over the issue.
The House made the call after considering a report of its Committee on Youth, Sports, Culture, Tourism and Information on the investigation of the true status of ownership of Bubble 007 (Tourist Kitchen, Ilorin).
The report was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Hon Olumide Awolola, representing Isin constituency.
The Speaker, Hon Danladi Yakubu-Salihu while reading the recommendation of the House on the matter, commended the committee for working diligently on the report.
He called on other committees of the House with similar assignments at hand to follow suit accordingly to achieve the desired result.
Some of the members who spoke on the matter implored the state government to look into the operations of the Holdings adding that those involved in the shoddy business of government property should be reprimanded to serve as deterrent to others.
Also, during Wednesday’s plenary, a bill for a law to establish the Kwara State Social Investment Programme passed first reading.
The motion for the first reading of the bill which was moved by the House Leader, Abubakar Olawoyin-Magaji, was seconded by Abdullahi Danbaba representing Kaiama and enjoyed the support of all members at the plenary.
The bill which is sent to the House by Gov Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is charged with the responsibility of tackling poverty, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and economic growth in the state.
The Speaker directed the clerk of the house, Hajia Halimah Kperogi to read the bill for the first time and make copies available to members for further legislative business.
