Fresh revelation emerged last night on how the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested suspected fraudster, Oyediran Joseph, said to be on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) most wanted list, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
A reliable source, who spoke on condition of anonymity with this medium, revealed that the 36- year- old suspect was nabbed at First Bank, Unity road in Ilorin, by the operatives of EFCC.
The source added that Joseph was arrested while trying to make withdrawal in the banking hall of the financial institution.
He stressed further that the anti-graft agency had earlier sent messages to financial institutions that the suspect has account with, requesting they call the commission whenever he attempts making transaction.
“While he was trying to make transaction at First Bank, Unity road, officials of the bank hinted us that he (Joseph) was in their banking hall.
“Immediately, we went to the bank, and he was apprehended while trying to make the transaction.
We had earlier sent messages to all the banks Joseph’s shady deals were traced to. This is what prompted First Bank to call us.
Recall that the Zonal Head of the Commission, Sharu Isyaku, told reporters at a news briefing on Friday that, “the 36-year-old suspect had benefited about N60million from the loot via Western Union Transfer.”
The FBI had arrested no fewer than 78 Nigerians in the USA, who were indicted for internet fraud and cyber crime-related offences amounting to millions of dollars.
Isyaku said, “Just last three weeks, the US authority had written to us for assistance in tracking and possible arrest and prosecution of two most wanted FBI suspects in Nigeria. “The Commission acceded to their request. The Commission has been supportive of the activities of the FBI and every other foreign counterpart whose responsibility is similar or analogous to ours.”
He revealed that the zone had traced four property linked to some cyber crime suspects in choice areas at Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
