Gov Okowa Cup: Kwara Utd shares spoils with Remo Stars

…as Biffo lauds team's performance at pre-season opener

 

Kwara United Football Club started their campaign in the 2019 Gov.
Okowa Cup Pre-Season tournament in Asaba sharing the spoils against
Remo Stars FC, in a match they heavily dominated.
Despite dictating the rhythm of the game from the blast of the
whistle, and having as much eleven attempts altogether, Remo Stars
stood their grounds, to earn a point from the match.
Remo Stars have their goalkeeper, Dauda Emmanuel to thank, as his
brilliance added value to his team’s display.
Kwara United FC made five changes, in a bid to test some of the new
legs, as Issa Magaji replaces Yamohah Richard in the 53 minute, to
ensure balance in the midfield.
Tobi Adeyi and Taylor Adebayor replaces Eguaveon Charles and Frank
Egharecha in the 57th and 60th minutes respectively, while Adah
Stephen came in for Saidu Isah.
The team will rest tomorrow, and continue their search for the title
on Friday, against Cynosure FC.
Kwara United FC, with a mixture of old and new players, will hope to
use the platform to finalise the screening of players ahead of the new
Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The selection process started in Ilorin, under the supervision of
Coaches Ashifat Sulaiman and Taofeek Babatunde, who have now been
joined by the new Technical Adviser, Coach Abdullahi Biffo.
It is expected that the team will name its final squad for the
forthcoming season after the competition.

Kwara United held Remo Stars FC their counterpart in the National
League to a barren draw as the kicked off with their first match of
the tournament.
Speaking to newsmen after the match, the new technical adviser of
Kwara United coach Abdullahi Biffo said, “honestly I got a very
positive response from the players, judging from the way they played.
They played as though they have been together for a very long time. I
must commend their efforts”.
“I made sure to instill confidence in them. I told them there are
times we make glaring mistakes in football which we saw in the first
half and also the second half of the game.”
The coach who said though he was not impressed at the fact that his
team were not able to convert the chances created to goals as he
expected, said he still he was happy that they create chances in the
first place and would work on them to improve on that aspect. He said
he expects result soonest having seen key areas the team needs pay
attention to while also addressing glaring errors.
Speaking further on his team’s performance, the former Katsina United
gaffer said, “no team is a hundred percent perfect, even when you win
trophies, it doesn’t make your team the best in the field, so far so
good we on a learning process”.
“I am impressed with the outcome in of the match against Remo stars
,if they further continue to adhere to my instructions, it will be
easier them to understand my philosophy in the field of play.  I can
see a good sign of improvement”, he concluded.
