unfounded committees being spread by some disgruntled individuals who
do not mean well for the Association.

…objects restriction of candidates
A veteran sports journalist, Alloy Chukwuemeka, who also doubles as
the General Manager of Nigeria professional football club, ABS FC of
Ilorin, has condemned in strong terms, the politics of restriction the
Electoral Committee of the Sports Writers Association is trying to
force own the throat of members ahead of the forth coming national
elections.
Chukwuemeka, in a letter sent to the SWANECO, said: “Please refer to
number 11 of the Electoral guideline as recently released and kindly
be informed that the restrictions on candidates for the office of the
General Secretary and that of the president to only NEC members is
against the spirit of fairness to our esteem members across the
country.
“It is also viewed as an attempt to gag members from aspiring to the
offices of their choice in an Association they belonged to and are
qualified as members. Again it amounts to arbitrary importation of bye
law that runs foul of our Association statute.”
He advised that the, NEC should immediately review this obnoxious
guideline and advised the SWANECO to expunge or reframe number 11 to
allow every qualified Sports Writers across the country to seek for
positions of their choice in the interest of oneness and fairness.
Alloy Chukwuemeka who is also a member of the National Executive
Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, has also
debunked the rumours that some members of SWAN and some state chairmen
are having some infighting over the guidelines recently released by
SWANECO ahead of the oncoming National SWAN election.
Chukwuemeka who spoke to newsmen in Asaba Delta State on Wednesday at
the ongoing Governor Okowa Pre-season Soccer Tournament said: “SWAN is
one united family and we are all on the same page both at the NEC,
state councils and even with our parent body NUJ.”
The Ex-officio member added that though there were certain
observations raised by some concerned members over issues of
disenfranchisement but that section of the guidelines has been
expunged from the guidelines and time extended for members willing to
contest to do so.
He added that SWAN will continue to operate as one united family and
as a strong professional Association.
He urged members to disregard rumours of parallel meetings and
unfounded committees being spread by some disgruntled individuals who
do not mean well for the Association.
The Club Owners secretary also said that his position as the DG of the
Campaign Committee of the incumbent President, Mr. Honour Sirawoo, is
still subsisting stressing that, he has mobilized both human and
financial resources to ensure his victory.
He noted: “Though I am presently supporting the re-election of the
incumbent president and also leading his campaign, but I owe it as a
duty with all sense of responsibility to give the right direction in
the affairs of our association so that posterity will judge us fairly.
