22- yr-old docked over alleged assault on police officer

The Upper Area Court 1 sitting in Ilorin the Kwara State capital has
granted bail to one Muftau Damilare over alleged assault on a Police
officer and belonging to a gang of thieves in Ilorin, on Monday.
The police First Information  Report (FIR) revealed that the case was
transferred from Grade one Area Conrt Otte to Upper Area Court 1
Ilorin.
It stated that on 11th September, 2019, one Muftau Damilare of Kamale
compound and two others, Taofeeq Kayode and Ibrahim Kayode conspired
and attacked one Sergeant Sulyman Kabir and one other, broke bottles
and attempted to injure them.
The FIR further revealed that on 21st September, 2019, Damilare again
attacked Kabiru while he was on patrol duty and tore his police
uniform.
On his arrest, three parcels of weed suspected to be India hemps were
reportedly recovered from him while his accomplices are at large.
According to the police report, investigation conducted revealed that
Damilare and others at large are miscreants terrorising Budo-Egba and
Otte Community.
They were dragged before Judge Abdulyekeen for assault, criminal force
to deter public servant from performing his duty and belonging to gang
of thieves contrary to section 257 and 306 of penal code law.
The Prosecutor, Oladokun Nathaniel prayed the court to remand the
defendant in prison custody as investigation is ongoing on the matter.
“Granting bail to the defendant at this point may jeopardize further
investigation as other gang members are still at large. The defendant
may jump bail as he has no reliable surety”, he added.
In his ruling, Abdulyekeen Ahmad granted bail to the defendant sum of
N300, 000 and two sureties in the like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a Level 14 officer and the second
must have landed property and must live within the jurisdiction of the
court. The case was adjourned to 10th November.2019.
