The Independent and Corrupt Practices and other related crimes Commission (ICPC) has called for the support of educational institutions in the fight against anti-graft in the country.
The Acting Chairman of ICPC, Hon. Abdullahi Bako who noted that corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of our society, including the education sector, added that the vice could be nipped in the bud in homes and schools.
He made the call at the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, recently.
Represented by the head, anti-corruption unit of the ICPC, Justin Kuatsea, urged other tertiary institutions in the country to take cue from the novel initiative.
He said the commission recognised the crucial role played by the educational sector in entrenching good ethical values in the younger generation.
He stated that the agency has been partnering with the Federal Ministry of Education, which according to him has been yielding results.
โThis occasion has no doubt presented a perfect opportunity for partnership and cooperation between the ICPC and institutions such as the polytechnic and other higher institutions across the country.
โWe have been in partnership with the National Universities Commission and Federal Ministry of Education which has yielded positive results leading to shutting down of illegally run tertiary institutions among others.
โIt is in continuation of these sanitising efforts that we believe in the existence and effective operation of the ACTU in public institutions which is directed towards combating corrupt practices and entrenching transparency in public service,โ he stated.
The chairman therefore charged the management of Kwara State Polytechnic to provide the unit with adequate fund for its sustenance, provision of suitable office accommodation and conducive environment for it to function effectively.
