A chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara State, who also doubles as the party Legal Adviser, Barr. Ladi Mustapha has described the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration as the worst in the political history of the state.
Mustapha disclosed this on Saturday while answering questions from our reporter at the APC Party Secretariat in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital.
According to the legal luminary, ‘the current administration in the state is nothing to write home despite much anticipations from the people of Kwara state.’
“Someone who has failed the party that fed him; what do you expect him to discharge to the entire state?
“Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are. This is a person that has failed his party, how would you adjudge such a person. His administration is nothing to write home about ,” Mustapha said.
He added that the crisis rocking Kwara APC kept feasting as a result of lack of leadership quality in the governor despite several attempts by the party hierarchy to nip it in the bud.
“The problem in the Kwara APC is leadership failure. Experience matters in whatever one is doing in life.
“He has never occupied official position before, and that is the effect of what is happening in the party and the state as a whole.
“I think the people of Kwara state will take their decision about him with their PVC in the next elections. All I know is that APC would present its governorship candidate while another party will present theirs too and Kwarans would decide. Though, hopefully before then the crisis would have been abated,” he stressed.
The APC legal adviser further added that though the party had exhausted its internal machinery to put to an end the intra – party crisis in the Kwara APC, those who are feasting on the schism refuse to nip it in the bud.
“The lingering division in our party is being worsened by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq himself. The elders of the party in Kwara have tried to settle the crisis, but the governor refused.
“Some of the elders even had to knelt down and prostrated before him, he remained adamant. “We had equally explored all possible means to resolve this, having explored party’s mechanism, all to no avail. We don’t know what has come over him. He colluded with the national body to suspend Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa.
“This is a man that singlehandedly helped him to power. But all we know is that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq wants somebody he would be controlling. He wants to be the governor at the same time controlling the party and there is no way in the APC constitution where it is stated that the governor is the head of the party,” he affirmed.
Mustapha however reiterates fears that he has for All Progressive Congress, APC, ahead of 2023 general elections if the Buni-led Caretaker Committee is allowed to midwife the elections.
“BOB went to court not only for himself, but for the party and to avert looming danger ahead of APC if the Buni-led committee is still there. We all know what happened in Zamfara during 2019 elections. All elections won by APC in Zamfara were given to the PDP in a similar scenario.
“If Buni goes ahead to midwife next elections, all what we are doing now is nullity. It can’t hold water. If we go ahead to contest elections with Buni-led caretaker committee, it means APC is in trouble come 2023. It is as good as nobody contests elections if Buni will conduct the next elections.
“The composition of Buni-led committee is illegal not only to the party’s constitution, but to the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is because you cannot hold two offices concurrently. Section 83 of 1999 constitution as amended affirmed this.
“The so-called governors are too arrogant as if they are above everybody. They are aware of this position of the law on the issue at hand, but they do things with impunity,” he said.
