17 Kwara South monarchs get staff of office

It was pomp and pageantry in Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government of Kwara State on Monday as 17 traditional rulers recently graded to fourth class were presented with staff of office.
In his speech, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulafatah Ahmed who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Habeeb Saidu urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting the present administration as well as ensuring peace among members of their communities.
In his remarks, the council Chairman, Alhaji Abdulfatah Adeniyi Labaka charged the royal fathers to reciprocate the gesture of the state government by supporting its programmes.
He said, “To the elevated monarchs and other members of Ifelodun Traditional Council, the onus is on you all to be proactive and work in synergy with the programmes of this administration.
“Your support for this administration will go a long way in tracking the realisation of your dreams as this exercise of elevating the royal class is ongoing across the state.
“I charge our royal fathers to support the good intention of the state government by educating your subjects on the importance of revenue on socio-economic development of our local government and state at large. The state’s revenue drive is envied even at the federal level.
“I charge you all to ensure security of lives and property in your domains and work in consonance with this administration. You must also report and act on all threats to security promptly,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Olukosin of Ikosin, Oba Murtala Zubair, appreciated the state governor and the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki for counting them worthy of the honour.
He also applauded Labaka and pledged that the royal fathers will at all times support the government of the day by adding their quota to the development of the state.
