Kwara United on yesterday commenced their campaign into the 2019/20
season in the Nigerian National League on an impressive note beating
visiting Gombe United 1-0 in Ilorin.
Gombe United went into this encounter against the Harmony Boys with
full confidence considering the fact that their coach Aliyu Zubairu is
an erstwhile Kwara United coach.
But Kwara United had the first chance to score in this encounter when
Joshua Agboola delivers a superb pass for Sunday Owoyemi who missed
the chance to score.
Ahmed Jimoh walked pass two Kwara United players trying to connect
with his teammate in the 12th minute, but his effort was wasted by
Rabiu Usman.
Kwara United had numerous chances to score in the first half, but the
luck went against them as the first half ended goalless.
On resumption, Kwara United changed their pattern of play to more
attacking style trying to look for an early goal so as to please the
home faithful.
Tobi Adeyi would have given Kwara the lead in the 66th minute when he
got a brilliant assist from Ajibola Adeleke, but he failed to beat
Gombe United goalie Gideon Gambo.
United eventually scored their goal in the 71st minute through Dede
Monghara who netted via a fantastic free kick.
Gombe United tried to restore parity before the final whistle, but
Kwara United held on to record a vital 1-0 win at home.
Speaking after the match, the Technical Adviser of Kwara United,
Abdullahi Biffo lauded the performance of his boys despite their just
coming into the season.
Kwara United will face Taraba FC in their next game of the season in
the National League.
