Man in court over alleged land scam
A 28-year-old man, Bolarinwa Taoreed, was on Wednesday arraigned
before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun for an alleged fraud
of N135,000.
Taoreed, who is facing a two-count charge of false pretext and fraud,
pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olayiwola Rasaki, told the court that the
defendant committed the offence sometime in 2018 at Sasa area,
Oke-Baale, Osogbo.
Rasaki alleged that the accused collected the sum of N135,000 from
Olabamiji Waheed, to sell a half plot of land to him, knowing that
this was false.
He said the accused converted the money for personal use and went
ahead to purchase a motorcycle with registration number EKY566 GB
before he was later arrested and brought to the court.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Sections 419 and
390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11 laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to grant his
client bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O Ajanaku, granted the defendant bail in the sum
of N50,000 and one surety in like sum.
Ajanaku said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction
with evidence of tax payment and valid means of identification with
resident address verified by the Police.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 19 for mention.
