Lifeless body of 38-yr-old found, evacuated from Asa River

Residents of Obbo Road, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, were yesterday morning thrown into confusion and panic following the discovery of the lifeless body of a 38-year-old man simply identified as Jamiu, at Asa river.

The body of the deceased was said to have been noticed by residents of the community floating at the river bank.

Speaking with our reporter, an eyewitness and shop owner in the area who simply identified himself as Julius said, โ€œSome of us woke up today only to discover the body of a young man identified as Jamiu flowing on the river. Nobody could explain how the young man or his lifeless body got there but for the fear of being implicated, some residents and shop owners vacated their homes and shops.โ€

Speaking further, the eye witness said, it took the courage of one of the residents of the area to call the attention of men of the Kwara State Fire Service to the ugly development.

However, when contacted by our reporter, yesterday, the Head of Media and Publicity for Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem, said the Service received a call 9:34 am on Sunday from one Alhaji Jimoh Mohammed from Obbo Road, raising the alarm that the lifeless body of a young man was discovered floating on Asa river.

In a Whatsapp message, to this reporter, yesterday, Mr Hakeem wrote: โ€œThis morning (Sunday), at exactly 9:34 am, we received a distress call from one Alhaji Jimoh Mohammed, a resident of Obbo road. According to the caller, a floating lifeless body was discovered at Asa River by residents of the community.โ€

Meanwhile, it was gathered, last night, that the remains of the deceased was reportedly handed over to one ASP Akeem Ahmed at โ€˜A Divisionโ€™ in the presence of the Chairman of Obbo Road Community.

This medium however could not confirm last night whether the remains of Jamiu had been buried

or deposited at the morgue.

When contacted last night, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he is yet to be informed of the incident

He said, โ€œI am yet to be informed of the incident, I will check and get back to you please.โ€
