An Ilorin-based frontline entertainer and broadcaster, Alhaji Abdulfatah Adeniyi (Dan Kazeem) has canvassed the need for government and other well-meaning individuals to support and encourage entertainers in Kwara State.
Speaking at the presentation of prizes to winners of the 2019 Solid Worth singing competition, last Thursday, Dan Kazeem expressed optimism that Kwara entertainers can be a force to reckon with if given level playing ground to exhibit their talents.
He disclosed that the recently concluded competition sponsored by Solid Worth Hotel has given further credence to the fact that Kwara is blessed with talents but lack viable platforms to showcase their skills.
In his words, “We need people to sponsor entertainment, government most especially. In India, 80 per cent of the country’s revenue comes from entertainment.”
Speaking on the singing competition, Dan Kazeem said 29 artistes cutting across juju, gospel, hip-hop and Fuji, who entered for the event were pruned down to 15.
“Thereafter, we reduced them to nine and from there we eliminated four and later three were shortlisted. It was the final three that we got the first position.
“However, Alhaji Taofiq Abefe Bello, the sponsor of this competition in his magnanimity decided to also give consolation prizes to five of the best artistes. As you can have seen, the 3rd position went home with N50, 000 while the 2nd person got N100,000 and the 1st position got a Daewoo car worth N1.2million.
“Apart from these things, each of the 29 contestants got a phone on the day of the competition after their performance.
“Also, because this is a way of hunting for talents; the little girl who came second is about 10 years old and we are planning to wax a record for her as a way of promoting and encouraging her to continue to put in her best.”
Earlier, Prince Bola Olojoku went down memory lane on activities that birthed the competition and urged artistes in the state to key into the competition. He stated that the organising committee selected impartial judges for the event to ensure fairness and transparency.
The 3rd position went to Smally Fatai, a Fuji musician while little Amira Oyeyipo clinched the 2nd position and fast rising juju musician, Bola Whyte won the star prize.
