Relatives of deceased patient attack medical workers at Sobi specialist hospital

 

Some relatives of a deceased patient reportedly threw caution to the winds when they assaulted medical officers on duty at the Sobi specialist hospital, Ilorin which have left a nurse battling for her life.
It was gathered that the nurse Eyitayo Ahmed who was asmathic and currently placed on oxygen and a doctor on duty Busari Abdulazeez, who escaped with injuries, were attacked by the relatives who also destroyed hospital equipments following the death of their brother.
Dr Busari while speaking to this medium narrated that the attack was based on a purported mismanagement of the patient, who was said to have died from complications of suffering from HIV, which he vehemently denied.
He said the patient was transferred to the hospital from a private clinic two weeks ago and he is suffering from stage two of the HIV virus which was recently diagnosed and has been placed on anti retroviral drugs.
Busari explained that the patient has been responding to treatment from illness associated with the HIV virus, but suddenly gave up the ghost in the afternoon, which came as a shock to the family, who accused the health workers of incompetence and they descended on them.
It took the efforts of the honourable representing Ilorin South in the Kwara State House of Assembly Hassan Abdulazeez Oluwanilo, who was around the hospital and promptly inform the Alagbado office of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps who arrested one of the relatives and was detained at the headquarters of the corps.
The doctor who decried heightened assault and threat to the life of medical doctors by relations of patients in the country cited the the recent issue in the Federal Capital Territory, where the doctor was stripped naked.
He therefore, called on the Federal Government and the state government to beef up security in health facilities to end all forms of assault on health workers.
