Kogi govt accuses deputy gov of accepting bribe

The Kogi State Government has accused the stateโs Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, of receiving bribes.
The allegation coming on the heels of the rift between Achuba and his boss, Yahaya Bello, was made by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Edward Onoja.
Onoja, who spoke at a town hall meeting in Ibaji Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, accused Achuba of accepting gratification from contractors working on some roads in the area.
He said the deputy governor was under investigation for the alleged offence.
He thus blamed Achubaโs office for governmentโs failure to fulfill its promises to Ibaji people.
Onoja said the people would be surprised by the revelations on their son who he described as โthe enemy withinโ.
He stated that he played roles in the nomination and subsequent emergence of Achuba as deputy governor.
Speaking further, Onoja said he took many factors into consideration before backing the Ibaji people to clinch the deputy governorship slot.
Reacting to the allegation, the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to Achuba, Honorious Aromeh described Onoja as a sinking man.
According to Aromeh, Onojaโs statement portrays him as a man with a lying spirit.
He wondered why a governorโs aide would publicly derogate the office of the deputy governor by telling lies to cover up governmentโs inadequacies.
Aromeh said, โWho was the contractor that alleged that the deputy governor collected kickback that Bassa road and roads in the western and central senatorial districts are not completed? Was it because the deputy governor collected kickbacks that made the projects inconclusive and why government cannot inaugurate a project in three years, while workers and pensioners are owed salaries and pension for between 30 and 35 months?โ
