By Ahmed Ajikobi

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali yesterday berated government at all levels and religious bodies in Nigeria for not showing enough commitment to execution of projects that could benefit humanity.

He said both government and religious bodies were topping the list of abandoned projects cases across Nigeria.

“Government and Muslims have the greatest numbers of abandoned projects in Nigeria, it is not a hidden issue and that is why I am saying it in public”, he said.

Ali spoke at the commissioning of new block of classrooms constructed by the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the take -off of its Model School and a mosque located within the premises of NUJ Press centre Ilorin.

The legal luminary who emphasised the essence of places of communal worships said, โ€œwe must not be tired of assisting humanity”.

He praised the leadership of the Kwara Council of NUJ under the leadership of comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem for execution of the two projects which he said would have direct and positive impacts on humanity.

Ali also announced that he would provide praying mats for the mosque as part of his contribution to the project.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the coordinator, Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim who spoke on the importance of the two projects said, congregational worship would attract greater reward from God.

He said both the school and mosque projects were interwoven because according to him, Islam encouraged Muslims and mankind to acquire knowledge and serve humanity.

Also speaking at the occasion, a former Secretary of the council, Elder Wole Adedeji enjoined adherents of the two religions to always co-habit in peace and promote religious harmony and tolerance wherever they found themselves.

He said “whether we are Christians or Muslims the mosque belongs to us”.

Adedeji also emphasized the benefits of congregational worship, noting great rewards await those who promote peaceful coexistence amongst mankind in the hereafter.

Quoting conspicuously from the holy scripture, Elder Adedeji said my religion โ€œsaid whoever worship alone has succeeded in chasing away 1000 demon’s but of if you worship in group you would chase away 10,000 demon’s”.

Chairman of NUJ, in his remarks, said the council had conceived the idea of the project for three years before the outgoing executives under his leadership succeeded eventually.
