Covid-19: UITH sets up investigative panel on suspended consultant

The University of Ilorin has constituted an investigative panel of enquiry to look into the circumstances that led to outbreak of the coronavirus in Kwara state.
Kwara joined other states in the country that has recorded confirmed cases on Monday when two its tests returned positive.
A senior consultant, Prof A.K Salami has since been suspended by the university over his role in the outbreak of Covid- 19 in the state.
In an internal memo signed by the Director of Administration for the Chief Medical Officer, David Odaibo sighted by National Pilot last night, the committee was directed to submit the report on the investigation within one week of its first sitting.
The ten-man committee is headed by Prof E O Afolayan.
Other members include Prof B.S Alabi, Prof G.K Orisagbemi, Prof G.F Adepoju, Mrs I.A Akoshile, Dr M.A.N Adeboye, Dr L.J Olosunde, Mr O.A Olutunde, Mrs G.E Salami and Mrs O.O Olu-Bolaji.
Its terms of reference include to investigate the allegation of the Covid-19 suspected case that died recently and brought in by a relative who is also a staff, to investigate the process of admission management and eventual release of the corpse and to investigate the motives behind the concealment of accurate information provided by the patient’s relative including withholding of the case note by the said relative.
It was also mandated to determine the culpability of the patient’s relative involved and to make appropriate recommendations to forestall future occurrence.
