30 UITH Staff self isolate, as patient tests positive

*Investigative c'ttee on Prof Salami's case submits report

This is certainly not the best of times for health workers at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital as no fewer than 30 staff of the facility have begun self isolation following contact with a positive case of COVID 19.
It was gathered that the affected personnel comprises of medical doctors, nurses and other support staff, who proceeded for isolation on Sunday morning.
It would be recalled that medical personnel of the facility suffered same date in the wake of the controversy that surrounded a suspected COVID 19 patient, who died about a month ago.
According to a report by an online medium Fresh insight one of the patients brought to the hospital tested positive for coronavirus.
It was further gathered that the patient, an accident victim with head injury was transferred to UITH Ilorin, from Ladoke University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso tested positive for covid 19.
The patient is said to be one of the two new cases declared by the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, last Sunday.
“The said patient who is a driver was evacuated out of UITH on Sunday morning, almost five hours before official declaration and taken to the isolation centre.
“All the caregivers who came in contact with the victim who was on admission at the Accident and Emergency surgical unit of the hospital, have since been advised to proceed on self isolation and samples taken” the report added.
Meanwhile, the investigative panel set up by the UITH management yesterday officially submitted its report to the management for implementation.
The report which was official submitted Monday morning, almost 2 weeks behind schedule is said to be undergoing scrutiny by the management for action according to recommendations of the committee.
In related development, Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a daily allowance of N25,000 for medical personnel in the front line taking care of the confirmed covid 19 patients while the sum of N10,000 is to be paid daily as allowance to the contact tracers.
