Immediate past Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Wednesday rallied the support of Nigerians for Prof. Ibrahim Gambari who has been appointed as Nigeria’s new Chief of Staff.
Gambari, whose appointment was announced on Tuesday will replace Abba Kyari who died of Covid-19 last month.
The appointee, a loyalist and long time ally of President Buhari who served as Minister for External Affairs during the military era hails from Kwara State.
His announcement went viral Tuesday on many social and traditional media platforms across the country and was widely celebrated by the government and top citizens back home in Kwara State including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
Saraki in a statement through his Twitter handle and personally signed by him described Gambari who is a former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) on Political Affairs as having the necessary pedigree to succeed in the office.
While reposing confidence in the ability and capacity of the new CoS to deliver, Saraki who is also the Waziri of Ilorin urged Nigerians to give him the necessary support needed to excel in his new assignment.
The statement reads: ”I congratulate Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari on his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
”Prof. Gambari is a decent man, a cerebral academic, disciplined diplomat and he is coming in with the necessary pedigree that will help him to do well on the job. I have no doubt that he will succeed on this onerous assignment.
”I urge all Nigerians to give him all the support that he needs to perform in office”.
Gambari has also served as the United Nations Secretary-General (Special Adviser on Africa) and was once Nigerian Ambassador to the UN.
