Oshoala frowns at CAF Awards cancellation, prescribes virtual award

Super Falcons and FC Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala has said that the Confederation of African Football, CAF shouldn’t have canceled the 2020 CAF Awards.
In a monitored interview on Brila FM, Oshoala posited that the award ought to have been held online instead of canceling it.
“CAF Awards is not about me. I have four of these awards already. Alhamdulillah. It’s just about what we can do. The efforts are not enough because we ought to have a virtual award. I don’t understand why we have to cancel the award. I don’t put award ahead of anything because I still have a lot of competition and tournament to play this year.” She submitted.
CAF during its video conference Executive Committee meeting, announced the cancelation of the 2020 CAF Awards.
Oshoala who won her fourth Women’s Footballer of the Year Award this year frowned at such decision by the continent football governing body.
“We don’t have to cancel the CAF Awards because of COVID-19. If the cancellation is due to COVID-19, then we can have a virtual award that will be economically friendly. CAF won’t need to spend much on getting tickets for attendees or pay artistes to come and play. It’s possible to have the CAF Awards on Zoom. Recently, the BET Awards was virtual and everything went well. In the midst of COVID-19, we could still find means of celebrating ourselves. The award is the only thing that we have to celebrate in Africa. The world has gone digital so CAF Awards can also go digital. People are doing a lot online amid this COVID-19 pandemic.” She concluded.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancelation of major sporting events and gathering including the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON.
