Our nat’l president resigned because of NASS appointment – IEDPU

T he leadership of the Ilorin Descendant Progressives Union (IEDPU) has refuted the rumour making the rounds that its national president, Ambassador Abdulazeez Sheik resigned his appointment because of the incident that led to the botched 53rd national conference of the union.
The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, AbdulRazaq AbdurRahman led other party members including Ambassador Yahaya Seriki and Musbaudeen Esinrogunjo to disrupt the event.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari reportedly left the event in anger after the incident.
But in a statement by IEDPU on the matter signed by its Publicity Secretary, the union said the public disregard any news that its national president resigned over the Tuesday incident at the Emir’s Palace adding that  ‘there’s no iota of truth in it’.
The statement reads in part: ‘The fact is that the national president was appointed by Senate President Bukola Saraki into the National Assembly Service Commission on Monday, 17th December, 2018.
‘Two days afterwards, the National President indicated his intention to resign his appointment with the IEDPU in view of his appointment but he was prevailed upon by the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and other executives to stay on considering the fact that the National Convention of the IEDPU was too close. He graciously obliged us.
‘His resignation thereafter is therefore not as a result of the unfortunate incidence that happened at the convention but for the reason above stated.
‘We find the trending news unfortunate and in clear bad taste. It is important to urge political actors to desist from carrying fake news that are capable of maligning important personalities who may not be able to defend themselves.
‘The IEDPU is a non-partisan, independent social-cultural association. We refuse the temptations to be dragged into the murky waters of politics.
