Cleric warns against senseless accumulation of wealth

By Mumini Abdulkareem
The Imam of Agaka Central Mosque and a member of the Kwara State Chapter of the Committee of Muslims Organisation (CMO), Ustaz Yusuf Murtala Pakata (Olopoewa) has warned Muslims against senseless acquisition of wealth.
The top Islamic cleric gave the warning during his sermon (Khutbah) on Friday shortly before the two unit prayers to make the traditional weekly service.
According to him, it is very sad and worrying that people have preoccupied themselves with the senseless accumulation of wealth to the detriment of the generality of the electorates.
While blaming some of the our leaders at various levels for the quagmire we found ourselves through insatiable and unquenchable thirst for accumulation of wealth, the cleric said the action will not only aide their reckoning before Almighty Allah but also serve as a source of their predicament on the last day when money will be utterly useless.
He said the action of the corrupt leaders will only worsen their situation before Allah adding that wealth is not among the criteria for piety in the sight of Allah.
Reading copiously from the Glorious Qur’an and traditions (hadith) of the prophet, the Imam therefore advised worshippers to always be conscious of the source of their wealth and property to avoid the wrath of Allah in this life and the hereafter.
“We don’t know where the country is going. With President Buhari at the helms of affairs, we have still not gotten over corruption. Those that are replaced in their appointment position have even turn out to be worse off in terms of embezzlement and grand corruption. So what are we talking about?
“Imagine what is happening with the suspended EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu who many of us look up to as the only one standing in the way of corruption. With the recent development, it is really worrying. Same with the tales coming out from the NCDC probe. What is wrong with people that they accumulate wealth their generations cannot spend? It is senseless and useless. What some of those corrupt people have acquired can be shared among the country’s populace at N10m each.
“The funniest thing is that some of these leaders and others occupying positions of authority don’t believe that they will die. Despite all the money some of them have accumulated, I have not seen any one of them that died and the money accumulated and embezzled is buried with them. So why striving to hurt you fellow beings who have right over you with action that will only make us suffer Allah’s punishment”, he added.
