The engagement of the blue-eye couple, Risikat Moromoke Azeez and her husband, Abdulwasiu earlier scheduled for yesterday (Sunday) has been shifted, National Pilot can reliably report.
Speaking on of the issue last night, a senior member of the Ilorin Emirate Youth Descendant Progressives Union (IEYDPU) who confirmed the postponement attributed the reason to issue of accommodation where the couple will stay after the ceremony.
He however added that a new date has been fixed for the ceremony which is coming Saturday in Ilorin.
According to him, “The engagement has been postponed till coming Saturday because of the insistence of the wife, Risikat AbdulAzeez that she will not return to their parent’s house after the engagement. So we have been looking for accommodation for them that will be affordable and comfortable for them to start their love life again” the source noted.
But another IEYDPU who also spoke on the issue anonymously said the there were two main reasons why the much talked about ceremony was postponed.
“First was the visit of the Emir of Kano to his brother and Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari here.
“You know the Emir has been at the front of their settlement and the visit of the Emir of Kano will not give us the opportunity to properly carry him along about the progress.
“But secondly and most importantly is the issue of accommodation. We are looking for an affordable decent accommodation for them around this community like Baba Soja area, Akerebiata and Okelele among others. This is not about political promises of enrolment in expensive private schools for their children and getting them accommodation in highbrow areas in Ilorin the benefit their new status.
“We have made them understand the situation and the need to live lovingly and peacefully with rest of mind without any false promises or false hope”, the source noted.
Last week, the on the issue with National Pilot on Sunday, a top member of the IEDPU leadership who was part of the peace talks confirmed that the families have agreed to hold the engagement on Sunday.
Last, the President of the IEYDA and National Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Babatunde Salauden and Mohammed Uthman Jaguma respectively rallied support for the couple adding that the Emir of Ilorin is very much interested in the peace settlement of the issue for them to continue to love and plan their lives together again.
According to Salaudeen, “We are happy that with the help of Almighty Allah Who used the Emir of Ilorin, we have been able to resolve it. They have both admitted their faults and promised to move on with their lives that such will never happen again and put their trust in Allah for everything”, he added.
But Jaguma said “The impression the people have over the issue because of how it has been reported in social media is not true without carrying out proper finding.
“We thank those individuals and organizations that have responded to the situation like the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq , former first lady, Toyin Saraki, FOMWAN, Prof Aishah and other individuals, clerics and dignitaries to numerous to mention and others will to till render assistance.
“But they should all make sure that the assistance they want to render should be an enduring one, that they will be able to cater for their needs and not one that will mortgage their future. We want to thank the Emir of Ilorin specifically”, he noted.
