When I won case for monarch who was my brother despite perceived sarcasm – Arosanyin
Chief Tunji Arosanyin was called to the bar 1971 after his graduation from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1970. He subsequently had a brief court attached in Kaduna with Justice J.O Obayan before he relocated to Ilorin, Kwara State to start his office christened Destiny Chambers at the Kabba road behind St Barnabas Church and later moved to the present Head Office at Unity road, Ilorin. In this interview with ACTING EDITOR, MUMINI ABDULKAREEM, the Kogi born but Kwara State based legal practitioner talks about his most dramatic moment in practice. Excerpts:
Although I have had many wonderful times in this profession if that is what you mean by my most dramatic moment in court. One of them was around 1994 when I won a case involving my traditional monarch back home, the Elegbe of Egbe in Kogi State in the Supreme Court. We won at the high court, Court of Appeal and the apex court. The Elegbe happened to be my blood relation, in fact my younger brother and my concern was that if I had lost the case, people would be making sarcastic insinuation that it was his brother who handled his case and lost it for him (Elegbe). And I made sure I was the one that handled the matter from the beginning to the last point in all the courts that it passed through, I never allowed any of my junior lawyers to handle it because my philosophy was that if I sink, let me sink alone. That case has remained one of my happiest because I got victory at the end of the day on a matter that I was physically, emotionally and physiologically attached to, it was like a vindication of sort because it would have been very disturbing if we had lost. Although sometimes, there are some knocks here and there from either colleagues or lawyers but they are few because I know my bounds and I don’t go beyond my boundary. I have enjoyed my practice for over fifty years now and I can’t remember any sad story but I have success upon successes like a recent one that I finished which was a land case against my Alma Mata, Titecomb College, a matter that lasted for about 15 years. These are some of my happiest moments.
