Yahoo boys allegedly beat police officer to stupor in Ilorin over kickback disagreement

It was a drama of sort around Apata Yakuba area of Kwara State Polytechnic on Saturday as some alleged internet fraudsters popularly referred to as Yahoo boys descended on some police officers who went to them to demand for kickbacks from the their fraudulent activities.
The situation however turned sour for the police officers who were seriously assaulted with one of them beaten to a pulp and has since had been admitted at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
The incident, it was gathered, occurred around 4:00pm when the police officers visited the home of one of the yahoo boys to demand for money.
But trouble however started when he refused and the police officers insisted on making him part some hundreds of thousands which was rejected.
According to a source who was privy to the issue, “The police officers demanded for kickback from one of them but he refused.
“He told them that he has already “settled” some set of policemen last week with N150,000. But the police officers insisted that he must give them the money before they will depart his house unknowing that some other of his friends were lurking around inside.
“So, it was while they were arguing over the issue and the disagreement that followed that his colleagues swam on the police officers and seriously beat them with planks and other objects.
“One of them that was beating to stupor has been admitted at the UITH”, the source added.
When contact, the Kwara State Police Public Relation Officer, SP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was not aware of the development and promised to check and get back. He has not done so before this paper went to bed.
