Exclusive! As registration closes, Kwara records 406,571 newly registered voters

With the recent conclusion of the continuous voters registration across the federation last Sunday, Kwara state have now recorded a total number of 406,571 new registered voters during the exercise.
The new figure of the registration in addition to the total 1,376,372 voters recorded in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections brought the total number of voters in the state to 1,782,943.
However, the Resident electoral commissioner in Kwara state, Mallam.Garba Attahiru Madami, who spoke to National pilot in a brief chat, said that the given figure is only tentative and it is subjective to change anytime soon as commission will do a clean up to eliminate double and multiple registration.
According to him, the accuracy of the registration ,“is subjected to two things, they’re going to look at it at the headquarters to detect those that have done double registration and secondly the ones that already been on the server, hence the current figures are very tentative.”
He however promised that after the clean up to eliminate double registration,the accurate figure will be available to the public by the end of the month,“ by the end of August, we should be able to give the accurate figure. the last time, when they sent us figure, over 29,000 had double registration” he said.
The voter registration was done through online and physical capturing across all the 16 local government areas in Kwara as well as INEC state office located at Mandate area, Ilorin.
So far the total number of Permanent Voters Card (PCV) collected is 28,577 at the end of the registration with many still expected to come for theirs or many still waiting for the availability of theirs.
The commission has mentioned the production of PVC for all fresh registrants and application of transfer as well as replacement of lost or damaged PVC or changed of Bio-data as one of the activities lined up to be embarked on as the registration ends.
According to the data obtained by National Pilot, Ilorin East local government area recorded the highest number of newly registered voters having 46,761 new registrations with Ilorin West coming second with 32,494 newly registered voters.
While Isin local government area has the least number of new registration with only 8,844 recorded.
When asked if there is any possibility for NEC to further extend the registration date to accommodate people that are yet to take part in the exercise, Madami response was, “INEC can’t extend the date because we have a lot of activities we have to engage in after the registration before the election which is fast approaching”.
