Minimum Wage: Kwara govt, labour to hold “crucial meeting” this week

By Mumini AbdulKareem
The Joint Labour unions in Kwara State have scheduled what a source described as a crucial meeting with the state government over the lingering issue of the minimum wage.
The state government and the labour unions have tangled for months over the issue with the latter accusing the government of deliberate acts of sabotage and promoting a false narrative over the matter.
The Kwara State chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Ore and Comrade Ezekiel Adegoke confirmed the development with National Pilot weekend.
According to Ore, โYes, we have fixed a meeting for next week either Thursday or Friday to resolve the issue.
For his part, Adegoke also corroborated him adding that the insinuations making rounds in the state that the government has signed it is false.
โWe have scheduled a meeting for next week and we are hopeful that the government will sign it at the end of the day. But please disregards all the rumours making the rounds that it has been signedโ, there is no iota of truth in that narrativeโ, he added.
Recall that the unions went on strike recently after the government failed to sign the N30,000 new wage after its 14 days ultimatum expired.
The issue later degenerated to alleged attack of the union leaders who accused the government of using violence as a tool of intimidation.
