By Jimoh Sulyman
An appeal has been made to the political office holders across all levels in the country to always endeavour to emulate the exemplary leadership style of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
This appeal was made penultimate Friday by the Chief Imam of IMAN Central Mosque, Irewolede area, Ilorin, Sheikh Sharafdeen Olohunoyin while addressing the congregation during his Khutbah (sermon) that preceded the observation of the weekly congregational two unit prayer.
He stated that “Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the zenith and greatest person and leader to ever walk the earth adding that he displayed the most exemplary leadership qualities through his humane, fairness, equality and most importantly respect for human dignity and honour, which is evident in his reported dealings and actions.
He appealed to leaders to try to emulate this noble leader in managing the affairs and responsibilities entrusted to them by their electorates “.
The Jumuah and Khutbah service, which was held in commemoration of the Eid Mawlud celebration to mark the birth of the noble Prophet Muhammad (saw), was attended by people from all works of life many of who showered Allah’s blessing on him whenever the Imam mentioned his name.
Olohunoyin, while showering encomium on the person of the prophet, emphasised the universal relevance of his message, unlike other prophets that preceded him whose messages were restricted to a particular locale and set of people.
While hammering on the universal influence of the noble Prophet, the Ilorin based cleric quoted copiously from the Glorious Quran, “And We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all mankind, but most men know not.” (Surah Saba’, 34: 28)
“Prophet Muhammad is a mercy from Allah to all mankind, in order to save the entire humanity from eternal damnation. This fact is expressly stated in Quran chapter 21vs107 which says “And, (O Esteemed Messenger,) We have not sent you but as a Mercy for all the worlds”, he said
The Imam however encouraged the faithfuls to always send their blessings and prayers on the soul of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), adding that if they do, Allah will also recompense them, with more blessings.
Olohunoyin charged the people to be lovers of peace, and always strive for peace wherever they find themselves in the wake of recent unrest that has been witnessed in all corners of the country which has resulted in loss of several lives and properties. He said it’s only with peace the country can attain the desired level of development for the betterment of all.
He however beseech the divine intervention of Almighty Allah (SWT) to help return normalcy to the country and bring forth a long lasting peace and preserve the unity amongst the people of the country.
Olohunoyin therefore encouraged the wealthy in the society not to be oblivious to the pains and afflictions of their poor neighbours and always try to lend a helping hand to them. “Find a way to lessen the severity of this recent time especially in this period of pandemic, whereby sustenance has been hard to come by”, he said
The Islamic scholar further called on the people to always have it at the back of their minds that Almighty Allah is watching them at all times. “Allah is the all seeing, that sees through you and know all that you do both in the open and in secret and He will judge all your actions when you return to Him”, Olohunoyin submitted.
