Professional colleges need TETFUND to survive

The Provost of Kwara State College of Nursing and Midwifery Ilorin, Alhaji Imam Abubakar Ayinla has called on Federal Government, National Assembly, Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant government agencies to consider professional colleges in the country for TETFUND support.
He made the appeal during a chat with our reporter in his office on Friday.
He said, “The infrastructure in my college are decaying and the state government has done little to ameliorate our situation due to lack of financial resources that can go round all sectors.
“This problem constitutes challenges for admission of prospective students, as presently, my college can only offer provisional admission to few students”.
The college administrator explained the urgent need for Federal Government to amend Tetfund Act to accommodate professional colleges to enable those institutions produce middle level specialized medical services for the country in an enabling environment.
He lamented that his college was established 47 years ago with little improvement in structures/infrastructures.
According to him, “There are no befitting administrative block, OSCE/practical demonstration theatre, e-library, hostel accommodation, buses among others.
“With the economic realities of our times, Kwara State Government cannot finance gigantic rehabilitation or construction of new modern buildings,” he added.
Ayinla, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to consider TETFUND support to professional courses across the country as a matter of urgency.
However, the Provost charged new intakes into the college to be law abiding, hardworking, disciplined and shun social vices.
“Your primary assignment here (campus) is to read, comport yourself, be responsible and be good ambassadors of this College at all times,” he advised.
Ayinla assured that products of the College will continue to be agents of change in the health sector, thereby contributing their quota to national development.
He commended the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, for being a good team player and a goal getter.
