The Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, National Pilot newspaper, Alhaji Billy Adedamola has decried the dying reading culture in Nigeria particularly among youths.
Speaking at the public presentation and launching of the book “Why marriage fails”, held at Bovina View Multipurpose Hall, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday.
The book is authored by Mike Adeyemi, the Business and Sports Editor of National Pilot newspaper.
Adedamola, who was represented by the Head of Production, National Pilot Newspaper, Mr. Rufai Olatunde, stressed the need to revive the reading culture to keep the mind active and enhance creative ability.
He, then, urged parents to encourage their children to imbibe reading habit because of its benefits.
The National Pilot boss, however, described the author as a dedicated and committed staff of the newspaper.
“He is a staff I’m well pleased with, his commitment and perseverance over the years is commendable, this is the third book, he launched whilst working with National Pilot Newspaper.
“This is a very commendable effort by him at a time when we have many writers but very few authors, due to lack of support and piracy,” he noted.
The Managing Director stated that the book was divinely inspired as marriage is an institution created by God.
“I give kudos to the author for an impactful book, which I encourage every household to have for a blissful marital life and peaceful home,” he posited.
In his remarks, the book reviewer, Dr Olabisi Adedigba of the University of Ilorin, described the 160-page book as a critical tool for the sustenance of the marital union.
She also noted that the book portrayed marriage as an ordained institution, adding that it confers moral status, obligations and responsibilities on the couple, hence the need for both parties to guard against failure of the union.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Alimi Abdulrazaq, represented by Dr Muhammad Ghali-Alaya and former Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, (KWIRS), Professor, Muritala Awodun, said the book is apt at a time when marriages collapse is fast becoming a trend.
Some of the dignitaries at the event include the Acting General Manager of Kwara Television, Mallam Qudus Sambo Olarewaju, the Chairman of Nigeria Association of League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Alhaji Tunde Akanbi and Mr AbdulAzeez Arowona,who represented the Business magnate, Alhaji Kamoru Yusuf.
In his address, Adeyemi expressed gratitude to God and everyone that supported him towards success of the event.
He said he wrote the book because of the inspiration to be an agent of change, adding that he would bring to forth more works of creative for a better society.
Other books by the author are Politics in the church, The Bitter Truth, Women are the same and One wife one problem, among others.
