As part of it Corporate and Social Responsibility, the Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency (KWCSDA) has embarked on precautionary awareness campaign on COVID-19.
The state-wide sensitization programme was kick-started recently at Esinlore community in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
Also, the agency took the enlightenment programmes to groups including Oloruntoba, Olorunda community and Agbajowo in Ogele; both in Asa LGA.
The sensitisation message by the agency to the communities and groups bothered on the prevention and control of coronavirus spread among people particularly at the grassroots.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of the agency, Engr. (Mrs) Amamat Oluwatoyin Haruna, explained that the essence of the initiative is to support the state government in its effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19, through awareness campaign in rural areas.
She said,”this sensitisation is very necessary at this critical time because the virus is deadly and presently there is no cure.”
The agency boss harped on the need for personal hygiene and adherence to government precautionary measures, urging people to show high sense of responsibility as they play their part in curbing spread of the virus.
She added that all hands must be on deck to stop the spread of coronavirus especially through community transmission.
Earlier, the Project Officer, Supervision of the agency, Mr. David Babalola, advised members of the public to follow strictly the safety guidelines by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) such as the regular washing of hands with soap and water and maintaining social distance, among others, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
He also stressed the need for people to stay-at-home and avoid unnecessary outings in order to flatten the curve of COVID-19.
On her part, the Project Officer, Gender and Vulnerability, KWCSDA, Hajia Hauwa Aliyu hinted on the psycho-social effect of the lockdown directive of government, calling for tolerance and peaceful co-existence among couples.
Aliyu who noted that the stay-at-home order by government has affected economic life of Kwarans, urged people to maintain high moral values and call the office to report any case of domestic violence for counselling.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Community Project Monitoring Committee, Mr. Isiaka Ishola; the Chairman, Oloruntoba group, Olorunda community, Mr. Folorunsho Olori and the Coordinator of supervising Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) of Agbajowo Group, Mrs. Bright Olubo, commended KWCSDA for the laudable initiative.
They expressed happiness over the various intervention projects facilitated by the agency for their community and groups such as electricity, water project and construction of skill acquisition centre, among others.
Highlights of the programme were the presentation of nose masks and hand sanitizers to community/group leaders and demonstration of hand washing by the General Manager, as well as tutorial on how to make homemade hand sanitizer.
