A yet to be identified final year student of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, was on Friday murdered around the school environment, National Pilot learnt on Sunday.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspected cultists numbering about ten in number invaded the area and shot the victim at close range who was standing at one of the abandoned buildings in the area almost adjacent the school.
The incident was said to have caused pandemonium around the area as some of those who witnessed the incident and passers-by in the area scamper for their safety.
His assailants later shot in the air to distract other residents and ease their escape.
According to one of the sources who confided in our reporter because he was not authorised to speak officially on the matter, โI was praying around Maghrib when I heard gunshots. I hurriedly concluded the prayer and look for ways to escape for the vicinity before I later came back to see people gathered watching the remains of the deceased.
When contacted, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Noah Yusuf said he was in retreat on the matter.
“I am presently in a retreat now, we are in a retreat”, he added
Also efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi on the development was not successful as at the time of filling this report as h didnโt pick calls put across to him.
