Kwara CoS allegedly ordered impounding of commercial tricycle over damaged vehicle headlight

He should approach court, not press – Logun

I only plead for clemency – culprit

The Kwara State Chief of Staff (CoS), Dr Aminu Logun reportedly
ordered the impounding of a commercial tricycle for damaging the
headlight of one of his vehicles in Ilorin.
The incident which occurred last month 4:30pm around Ansarul Junction,
Oloje area of Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state involved
a blue Kia that allegedly belong to the CoS and the tricycle owned by
one Lukman Adebayo with registration number LV 800 MUN.
It was gathered that several efforts to plead with the CoS to order
the release of the tricycle fell on deaf ears as he insisted that the
damaged headlight must be replaced.
It was gathered that the tricycle was being held at the Oloje police
station for more than a month now because of the inability of the
tricyclist to replace the headlight which cost the sum of N180,000.
But the CoS denied the car was his adding that he was not inside the vehicle.
Narrating the story, the tricycle rider said he was heading to Oja
from Oko Olowo on that fateful day while the Kia was coming towards
Oko Olowo but mistakenly hit a commercial motorcycle who in turn hit
the headlight when he was trying to avoid a vehicle that bumped into
him.
“So I decided to plead alongside the commercial motorcyclist since it
was the person that literarily pushed him to the accident in an
attempt to avoid the car that bumped into me.
“We have pleaded severally to no avail and the police insisted that we
must buy another one on the orders of the CoS. We didn’t get in the
market but we discovered online that is is sold for N180,00.
Sometimes, we would be told to come and see him at Government House
and on getting there, we would wait for hours without success. At
times, we would be told that he’s coming to see us at the police
station, but we would wait endlessly.
“My wife is pregnant and I have not been able to work since this
incident happened. I took the tricycle on hire purchase and I have not
been able to remit anything since then with the owner threatening to
collect it from me. I have just been able to pay some amount of money.
“I am pleading for leniency and clemency for anybody to come to my
aide and help me to plead with the CoS on this issue. We are really
suffering and piling up debts. I beg the people to assist me to plead
with the Chief of Staff,” he added.
But reacting to the issue last night, the CoS described Adebayo as a
drunken tricyclist adding that he was trying to use the media instead
of the court to settle the issue.
“My staff went out and a drunken driver hit the car they were in. They
took him to the police. So if he is turning the press or radio to
court of law that is a different issue. If somebody gets drunk and hit
somebody on the street, will he just go to the press; the best thing
is to go to the court. I am coming from a long way just like you young
man. Why not lets us do things about change, progress and how this
country will go forward. You are fighting the course of drunken
driver. I don’t know you but I am respecting you, that is why I am
talking to you (on this issue) because normally I don’t talk to people
I don’t know.
“What you mention involved my staff, I was not in the car and the car
does not belong to me, why are you mentioning my name, you know how
old I am. I am coming from a long way and it is not in 2019 somebody
will hit a car and you start mentioning my name, what value does that
add to the progress of Kwara State. I don’t know why you are making a
mountain out of a mole hill. This does not add value to Kwara State;
let’s deal with substance and things that can better the state. People
like you are the leaders of tomorrow, why wasting your time doing
this. I have come a long way”, he added.
