My wickedness makes me cry – Patience Ozokwor

Mama G, as she is popularly known by fans was speaking at the Glo Laffta fest held in Lagos recently. First, the soft-spoken veteran said, โ€œIf I am wicked, it is because you love it. I always want to make you happy,โ€

Ozokwo, who was warmly receive by her Lagos fans with applause and standing ovation, said she keeps playing the wicked roles because it gives her fans joy โ€œAnd I like those who appreciate what I am doing. I will keep doing it because of youโ€.

She was however quick to point to the fact that she picks up these roles because she hope wicked people will be able to learn from the character and change their ways. Even as she pointed out that some of these roles bring out tears from her eyes.

โ€œSometimes, I cry when I watch some of the characters I had played in movies at home. I just thanked God it wasn’t the real me that was involved, but a character.

โ€œNearly all the movies where I played wicked roles made me cry because I remember what that character had done to somebody.

โ€œI do these jobs to the best of ability because I want to sit down at home, watch and cry over what I’m doing to people.

On the morality of the roles she echoed โ€œโ€œWhen I play the role of a bad woman, I see myself at that instance as a mirror through which I want society to see and appreciate the fact that it is not good to be bad. This is the reason I do it with so much passion that it becomes almost believable.

I also see such roles as an opportunity to minister to lost and wicked souls that jealousy, hatred, envy and all the likes can only bring one to ruins.โ€
